Strain Name: UBC Chemo Grade: A Type: Nearly 100% Indica – Rumoured to have been developed by Dr David Suzuki at UBC in the 70s. Strain developed specifically for treating the symptoms of nausea and pain associated with chemotherapy. Looks: Very dense and resinous buds. The true Chemo is supposed to look very strange with three point leaves and a bonsai-like appearance – I did not find any of the plants to have these qualities, so I’m not sure if it’s the real thing or not. However, the Phenos were all quite consistent, with basically two slightly different expressions – a dark purple and green. The smoke, smell, effects, and taste are consistent between them however, so likely not much other than the color that is really all that different. The Buds are absolutely covered in sugar, and will leave a nice pile of keif whenever you break open a nugget. Smell: Not sure what people refer to when they say “it smells like kush”, but if Kush smells like lemony and pine, then that is what this strain smells like. Very nice aroma – not overpowering, but noticeable. When burning – it has a more distinct earthy and hashy smell. Taste: Hashy, but if you toke slowly and let the smoke draw across your tongue, it is distinctly sweet- almost like sugar. This may just be a byproduct of my growing methods though as I grow in organic soil. Potency: Very strong. A couple puffs off a joint and I’m good and medicated for a couple hours. Really easy to overdo it though – take one extra puff and it can really grab a hold of your head for a while and make it difficult to even walk. Lay down and stare at the tv and you’ll be fine, try to move your head, and it feels like your head is on a swivel – this tapers off for about an hour and leaves you very, very chilled out. Effects: I grow this strain for my nighttime medicine. My problems being stomach pain, nausea, and trouble sleeping due to the pain. This is a wonderful plant for boosting my appetite, and turning the dial down on my stomach pain. I am prone to anxiety and panic attacks, but this bud never gives me a hint of paranoia – and it works wonders for helping me sleep. I can function during the day fine if I take small tokes as needed, but one extra hit though, and it will lock you to the couch – the line is that fine. No sativa qualities at all, except it does seem to make me laugh at things much easier. If you suffer from stomach troubles like me, or you want just a really good indica plant that is super easy to grow – this is your girl.
(*Mota notes: Indica
63-70 days flowering time
This pheno is a heavy brancher with many bud sites, each branch will look like a baseball bat when grown correctly. It needs lots of rootspace and low temps to thrive. It can be PH sensitive so bigger pots help as well as frequent flushes. UBC Chemo is one of the strongest indicas hands down,it\'s diesel/citrus aroma is one of a kind too. )
As far as this strain goes it is the original UBC Chemo.
We selfed nothing man.
When I started Woodhorse Seeds back in 2002, we were gifted some really excellent genetics by a couple of really old school west coast breeders as well as, of course, the strains we got from ........................ (the now well know Woodhorse ............... and .................).
Among those genetics was our .............(.........) some ........ gens, which we haven't done much with and also both the UBC Chemo and something very similar to what they call Montreal Chemo, which is a more Sativa version of Chemo. This is what any other Chemo being sold out there is. We are the only seedbank I know of that has had the original UBC Chemo and up until Mota did a run for me of it recently, there was only the one phenotype. The original with its sometime polypoid leaves etc.
Mota said he found a pheno that had wider leaves though so we made it available.
For all intents and purposes though it is an IBL. We have done alot of work with it over the years and found only the one variation that Mota found recently.
So the good news too is that its no longer clone only...
lol
Hope this explains things for you. I am happy to answer any questions.
Enjoy!

You are off a bit bro.
All the work done on the UBC Chemo was done by us. Mota got our worked version to do a seed run for me this year and found the wide leafed pheno. I reiterate, we found no variation in several breeding runs between 02 and now. The run Mota did for us this year is the only variation ever found. Mota is not doing any working of my strains, just seed runs of the finished work. I am not in a position to do what he does right now and thus the help.
As far as your questions about the old school growers, they did nothing to the strain but keep it going for generation after generation. You have to realize this strain was designed and created right here in BC at the university and there were seeds of it when they made it originally.
Its no different than any other strain grown by any other breeder. The reason things become clone only, is because there were none of the original seeds to be found any more. My unique position being here on the coast and being lucky enough to meet people who continued to work with the strain throughout the 90's and beyond, until we got it in 02, is the only reason I have it. These people do not share their work with the public in general, but were intrigued by the fact I was aiming to be a medicinal breeder for medicinal users! (at least by and large)
Jep, dit soort heeft geen lab raport nodig.
Al 30 jaar is het een gezochte medi soort.
Een smoke report:
It has to be the fastest hitting stone I ever tasted. The first hit you know your in for a ride. Gave some to my freinds and they all woke up with the joint or bowl still in there hands. Has to be the stongest I had. I was lucky enough to have UBC CHEMO, JACK HERER, and WHITE RHINO for acouple months and the chemo is the one I kept coming back to. It is a fast burning bud though.
